As a realtor, you wear many hats. Some days you are a salesperson, and other days you are an advocate, business manager, negotiator, and marketer – and that’s just naming a few! Your clients are trusting you with one of the biggest purchases of their lives and expect you to do the job well.  But these roles require a set particular of traits for maximum success.

Here are six characteristics of a great real estate agent:

1. They have an engaging personality.

A good real estate agent has to learn to sell themselves – not just property. If you can show who you are and demonstrate to your clients that you have a positive attitude, are personable and honest, and are confident in your abilities, they will trust you to help them make the best purchase.

2. They are attentive to the details.

Successful realtors are extremely detail oriented. It is imperative for you to be organized and attentive to the unique needs of your clients. If you can follow-up with leads, communicate consistently and frequently, and pay attention to the little things, you will close more deals and receive more referrals.

3. They are knowledgeable.

Knowledge is power in any profession – real estate is no different. Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and topics within your local market and do your research. Your clients want to know that they can trust you and you want them to view you as an expert. Continue educational and professional development because trends and information change – rapidly.

4. They know how to work hard.

The realtors that are on top got there because they worked for it. You must have a great work ethic and be self-motivated to make it in this business. It is your job to pursue leads and aggressively market your clients’ properties so they can have the best experience possible. You close the deals, no exceptions. When you work smart and work hard, you will reap the rewards.

5. They have integrity.

Don’t pass over this one. People know when you aren’t being genuine and your professional reputation is guided by your character and how you handle yourself. Without integrity, your career as a real estate agent will be short lived.

6. They are tactful.

People aren’t perfect, and neither are their houses. There will be times when you need to come up with creative solutions to problems and present them well. Learn to walk people through a house and tactfully explain the good and the bad.

A good real estate agent has one goal: to help their client buy or sell their house quickly. If you emulate the qualities above, you are on your way to creating a successful business! No matter how difficult the sales environment is, you will thrive.
